Program Overview

David's Place II iis a short-term (9 month) day program driven to improve the quality of life for individuals with co-occurring developmental disabilities and mental illness through the power of employment. We will work with individuals to help them make choices to improve their physical health, come up with an individualized mental health stability plan, teach the necessary soft skills as well increase the individual's ability to independently navigate the community. Depending on the individual's skill level they will participate in various activities onsite and in the community to achieve their individualized goals towards increasing their vocational skills and becoming employed.

Program Services

Volunteer

Individuals are expected to participated in meaningful volunteer oportunities 2 days pers week to learn more about their job preferences and increase their vocational skills.

Teamwork/Relationships

A company's success is rarely dependent on one person doing something all by themselves. Success is the result of many people working towards a common goal.

Health & Wellness

A healthy lifestyle improves work habits, decreases abseeteeism, and increases productivity that will result in the individual having greater success in future employment settings. David's Place II program participants will be working closely with the staff to learn more about making healthy choices by looking at their own meal intake, making plans to stay hydrated, improving their sleep habits, increasing their movement so that they will be able to endure longer work shifts and lastly developing coping skills to help regulate their emotions.

Communication

Skills boost performance because they help extract clear expectations from managers  so that the individual can deliver excellent work. Our program participants will be able to manage email, leave detailed messages on a voice mail and be ready to discuss their skills effectively in an interview.

Safety Practice

Curriculum will also include a safety drill practice. Our staff will be reviewing safety skills so that individuals will be prepared to practice them with increased responsibility when they are employed.

The WRAP Hour

Person centered focus time for staff to help the individual's complete worksheets to plan manage their mental health wellness when they take on new stressors once employment starts.

Craft

Allowing for opportunity to try something new and take on new challenges. Our will be creating items to sell at craft fairs as well as opportunity for individuals to take these items home if they choose to.

Going by Foot

A community walk to local business to observe and draft a ratings of places visited.

News Flash

Allowing for time to work on our agency newsletter gathering ideas for stories, composing then editing.

Time Managment/Transportation

While attending David's Place II individuals will be working on prioritizing what needs to be done so that they are ready and at work on time. Our program staff will also be assisting with destination training and community safety.

Problem Solving/Customer Service

Problem solving skills are important in everything employment setting. Program participants will improve their abilities to evaluate the work they are doing, involve others if needs by learning that it is okay to ask for help, decided how to go about fixing the issue at hand, and delivering what is expected of them. At David's Place II the individuals will participate in volunteer settings so that they can learn how to work with others. There will also be onsite group activities that require the individuals to work together.

Organization

Being organized is not just about the physical organization of the workspace. It is also a state of mind that needs balance. While attending David's Place II the participants will be working on adding balance to their lives to include their relationships with others, sleeping patterns, fitness, health, and mental health well-being. David's Place II will help individuals learn how to be prepared and plan for their workday.

Pyschoeducational groups

These groups will be facilitated by our part-time consultant. The discussions will focus on educating  the participating individual in ways that they can better cope with the demands of employment. Some of the topics will include learning to manage stress, self-care, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, We will extend this support to working with the family and social support as needed who might be having a difficult time allowing or watching the participating individual experiencing individual experiencing the independence of employment.

Career Development

Person centered focus time for staff to help the individuals complete their cover letters, applications, create resume and portfolios, research businesses that they have a desire to work at.

Meditation

An opportunity for individuals to learn different techniques to practice mindfulness on their own.

Reflection of the Week

This will serve as a formal meeting to allow individuals to share what was liked, disliked, and want more of.

Grooming Lounge

Time at program for individuals to consult with staff and other participants about ways they can improve their hygiene.
